Folk music has been inspiring and influencing classical composers for centuries, and many of our best known and loved classical works today include elements of these folk traditions. The first half of this concert features folk music from Scandinavia and a work with strong elements of Hungarian folk music mixed with Schubertian lyricism. The festival concludes with a work widely considered to be one of the greatest chamber works ever written (listen out for some Hungarian folk flavours!) - Schubert’s sublime String Quintet.
Danish String Quartet - Selections from “Woodworks” (Glenn Christensen, Caroline Hopson, Tom Higham & Edward King)
Dohnanyi - String Trio (Caroline Hopson, Tom Higham & Edward King)
Schubert - Quintet (Glenn Christensen, Caroline Hopson, Tom Higham, Edward King & Simon Cobcroft)
